Selling Questions

What information should I include in my listing?

Try to describe your item as accurately as possible – the more detail you provide, the easier it will be for potential buyers to find your item. To help you with this, you’ll find a series of drop downs to fill in when you are adding your item – by selecting the option that best matches your item, you will ensure that your listing will be picked up easily in searches. Make sure you include at least one good photo of your item (you can add up to 6). Listings with photos will get a far greater response than those without. Please also view our selling guides for some useful tips on how to get the most out of your listing.

Do my contact details have to be displayed on my listing?

Not at all - you have an option to display your telephone number on your advert if you wish, but your email address will always remain private unless you choose to add it to your item description. If a potential buyer wishes to contact you, they will send a message via the website and this will be forwarded to your inbox. You can then reply to them direct from your inbox.

How do I avoid getting scammed?

Whilst we hope all the buyers on Bride2Bride will be genuinely looking for items to make their wedding day perfect, please be mindful that the person you are conversing with may not be who you think. Be extremely cautious if the potential buyer does any of the following:

  • Offers to pay more than your asking price.
  • Offers to pay via money order, Moneygram, Western Union or another untraceable method.
  • Sends you a link to PayPal, where you are then asked to re-enter your information. You should NEVER submit your information unless you've entered through PayPal's homepage.
  • Asks you to send the item before the funds have cleared into your bank account. You should always wait for funds to have cleared before handing over your item. Please report any suspicious behaviour to .
What’s the best way for me to receive payment for my item?

Unless you are meeting face to face (and receive a cash payment for your item), we recommend using a third party payment provider such as PayPal. In the event of a dispute, PayPal has its own Resolution Centre, but do make sure you meet the requirements of the seller protection scheme.

How should I post an item out once it’s been sold?

Ensure that your item is adequately packaged to prevent damage whilst in transit. Always obtain proof of posting and ensure the parcel is insured against loss up to the full value of the item. The Post Office provides a free Certificate of Posting for free, which gives compensation for lower value items.

Buying Questions

How do I search for items?

Browse by Category

We’ve listed our main categories (Wedding Dresses, Wedding Decorations, Bridesmaid & Flowergirl Dresses and so on) on the left hand side of the page. If you just want to have a general browse of all Wedding Dresses for example, simply click on that category name. Once you’ve clicked on a category, the left hand browsing menu will change to allow you to narrow down your search. You may want to just view dresses of a particular size, designer, shape or neckline, or any combination of these properties, and this filtering feature allows you to do that.

Search by keyword

If you have a particular item in mind such as a dress designer and dress name, you can type this straight into the search box at the top right of your screen. This will bring up a list of adverts that match your keywords. You can also type in more general terms such as "candle" or "lace" and all adverts related to those terms will be displayed. Again, the left hand side bar will change allowing you to filter your results by general properties of the item such as colour, theme, condition & location of the item. If you want to narrow the results down further, click on a specific category to display more options again.

How do I contact a seller?

Every listing page will contact a Contact Seller button which will open up a message dialogue box. Fill out the details of your enquiry and click submit. A message will be sent via the website to their email inbox where they can pick it up and reply to you. Alternatively the seller may have chosen to display their contact telephone number on their advert, in which case you can make contact that way.

How do I know if a seller is genuine, and how can I protect myself??

Whilst the majority of people advertising on Bride2Bride will be lovely, friendly people selling genuine items, unfortunately we cannot guarantee this. Here a few tips to help you avoid getting caught out:

  • Be wary of any adverts that contain very poor English, or are offering something that seems to good to be true – they nearly always are!
  • Avoid sellers asking for transfers via Western Union or MoneyGram – these methods are favoured by fraudsters and should be avoided.
  • Consider paying by the seller by PayPal as they offer compensation if you do not receive the item, or you find it is significantly not as described. See their website for details of their Buyer Protection Scheme.
  • If a Seller is reluctant to provide any additional photos of the item, or does not allow you to view the item in person ahead of buying it, proceed with caution. There may be a genuine reason for this, but be alert to any suspicious behaviour.
  • Be wary of sellers who ask for lots of personal information from you, and are unable to provide you with adequate details of the item they are selling.
General Safety Advice for Face to Face Meetings

When buying or selling expensive items like a Wedding dress, it’s understandable that potential buyers may wish to try it on before committing to the purchase. If you are meeting face to face (particularly in someone’s own home), try to take someone along with you if you’re the buyer or have someone else in your house if you’re the seller. If you are not able to, make sure you have your mobile phone available and switched on, and let someone know about the meeting.

Selling Guides

We hope that the advert adding process is really easy to follow so you can get stuck straight in, but if you need a bit of guidance, keep on reading.....

Step 1 – Choose a Category

First of all you will need to select which category to list your item under. Hopefully you’ll be able to find a category that applies to your item, but please get in touch if you think there is something missing. Then, depending on what you are listing, you may be asked to choose a sub category to further pin point where your item will be listed.

Step 2 – Provide information about your item

Here, you can provide a detailed description as well as a catchy title for your listing. You then need to fill out the series of drop down menus which will be specific to the category item you selected above. This information will really help those searching for specific items to pinpoint your listing, and they also help you to include the information we think potential buyers will find most useful when browsing for items.

Step 3 – Add photos

You can add up to 6 photos of your item, with the first photo being the main image for your advert. Simply use the dialogue boxes to browse to where the image is stored on your computer, and click on the upload button before moving on to the next image (if you have more than one to upload), and so on until you are happy with the photos for your listing.

Step 4 – Confirm your listing

Review your item listing, checking that all of the details are correct. If you’re happy, submit it! If you want to change anything, you can navigate back to make your changes.

That’s it! You have successfully created your advert, so you can now sit back and wait for the responses.

How do I Sell my Wedding Dress?

When selling your wedding dress (as with any item you are listing) the key is to provide as much information as possible. By adding in all of the details regarding dress designer, model number or name (preferably in the item description), you will ensure that buyers looking for your exact dress, will easily find it when searching. Be really clear about what UK dress size it is, what height you are, and whether it’s had any alterations. If you can add your chest, waist and hip measurements, that will really help potential buyers in weighing up whether it will fit them. It’s also really useful to describe whether the dress has been professional dry cleaned, and please be honest about any damage.

Finally, do add in some photos of you in it on your wedding day – you are likely to get a far greater response than if you just take photos of the dress on its hanger. How do I know what style or fabric my dress is? Take a look at our wedding dress style guide to point you in the right direction. If you are still unsure, please contact us, and we’ll see if we can help!

How do I sell my bridesmaid/flower girl dresses? As with listing a wedding dress, adding a detailed description of your bridesmaid dresses will create more interest in your item. When it comes to describing the size, this can be a bit tricky as a lot of dresses (for example Dessy), come in US sizes. Please indicate the UK dress size of the bridesmaid who wore the dress, and if you are able to, list their measurements in the main body of the advert. If you have more than one dress to sell, it’s more than likely that your bridesmaids won’t all be the same dress size, so please describe the size of each dress you have for sale in the main body of your advert. If you are confused what fabric/neckline your bridesmaid dress has, please view our Wedding Dress Style Guide for further information. In terms of lengths, "T-Length" is below the knee (calf length), and "Cocktail Length" is just above the knee. How do I sell my wedding decorations? It’s really easy to list all of your wedding decorations on Bride2Bride, be it picture frames, willow hearts or candles. Start by selecting the Wedding Decorations category, and then select the sub category that best suits your item. Make sure you provide as much information as you can, particularly relating to the sizes, colours and how many of the item you have.
